Mar 18, 2021, 4:20 PM Port Douglas is the busier alternative - further north of Cairns, bigger beach, access to tours to reef, closer to Daintree. And PC over Trinity Beach (very quiet). 111 posts 59 reviews 4. Mar 18, 2021, 7:23 PM If you can stay 1 or 2 nights in Palm Cove ( which is lovely) and then Port Douglas. Trinity Beach is pretty but much smaller and more residential. Port Douglas has great shops / bars / Restaurants and many boat trips to the Reef leave from there and it's closer to The Daintree Rainforest. 2 posts 5. Mar 19, 2021, 4:40 AM Palm cove is a great place to stay, but you really do need to hire a car, the same applies at Trinity beach, Trinity beach is just a beach, and not very interesting. Palm cove has some great resteraunts, lovely walks along the beach, and the jetty is very interesting where you sometimes spot dolphins, very large fish being caught by the anglers catching a variety of fishlarge shark from reef shark to the occasional tiger shark. There is a good bus service in to Cairns but a car gives you freedom to drive up to Kuranda and the tablelands, and it's a great drive to Port Douglas for the day.
"Homelessness is a solvable problem, we know what needs to be done, we just need the will to carry it out. " The committee recommends the government look at developing an inclusive zoning mechanism, which would require a portion of any new major housing development be allocated to social or affordable housing. The government could provide incentives to developers to offset the costs involved and ensure that the cost of other dwellings in the development are not increased as a result of the requirement. The committee also called on the Victorian government to advocate the Commonwealth government to permanently increase the rate of JobSeeker payments.
The Victorian government must increase the availability of affordable, long-term housing to help combat homelessness, a parliamentary inquiry has found. The Legislative Council legal and social issues committee inquiry into homelessness, tabled in parliament on Thursday, found key drivers include domestic violence, the high cost of housing and the lack of social housing stock. It found Victoria has the lowest proportion of social housing in Australia. Only 3. 2 per cent of the state's housing stock - about 81, 000 dwellings - is social housing, well below the national average of 4. 5 per cent. While the Victorian government committed a record $5. 3 billion in November to build 12, 000 social housing homes, for the state to reach the national average it would need to build up to 3400 new dwellings per year until 2036. The committee found the demand for homelessness services "significantly exceeds the availability of support", with about 76 per cent of people seeking long-term housing unable get it, while 62 per cent could not get medium-term transitional accommodation.

Depends what you want to do, what your interests are, whether you're alone, a couple, family etc. Personally I prefer Palm Cove, but what I look for in a holiday compared to you could be polar opposites. 7. "The housing resources to accommodate every person in need simply do not exist, " the report reads. People under 35 are the largest age group experiencing homelessness in the state, though older women are a fast-growing cohort. The majority rely on Commonwealth income support such as Jobseeker or the disability support pension as their main source of income. Those most at risk of homelessness are renters. "Simply put, housing costs too much for people on low incomes, " the report reads. "Commonwealth income supports have not risen as much as the cost of rent in recent years. This has caused severe housing stress amongst low-income households and left them vulnerable to homelessness. " The committee, which is made up of three Labor MPs, two independents and two Liberals, makes 51 recommendations in its 500-page reports to tackle the crisis. "We need to be smarter about where we direct our efforts. The two best things we can do are strengthen early intervention services and provide more secure, long-term housing for the homeless, " committee chair Fiona Patten said in a statement.

Mar 18, 2021, 9:21 AM I really love Palm Cove, so that's my choice. A lovely spot. Good accommodation, eateries, beach and not full on touristy.. 462 posts 7 reviews 3 helpful votes 2. Mar 18, 2021, 3:22 PM Palm Cove - you have the restaurants and cafes with a wide choice - all on the doorstep. Trinity is lovely but very quiet - there are still only about 4 -5 choices and not much buzz at all. PC also has a couple of little shops for just exploring and some lovely spas and a few amenities in the village if needed - bottle shop, doctor, hair, ice cream shop for after dinner stroll. Restaurants go from hatted NuNu to the pub or surf club - so you have your rsonally, I think the Palm Cove beach is also prettier. 15, 018 posts 35 reviews 13 helpful votes 3.
